Word Journeys
In my third grade classroom, I have 5 different groups of students at different stages in Kathy Ganske’s ‘Word Journey’s’ program. Each week, they get a new list of words to sort. Once my students finished cutting and gluing their words into a notebook, I often felt that they didn’t have enough organized and meaningful practice with their words! These pages were originally created to give my students meaningful practice that touched on many of the Common Core Standards. I have now polished them up for other students/teachers to benefit from!

For each word list, your students will engage in the following tasks:
–> Put words into alphabetical order
–> Identify nouns and verbs
–> Use resources to name antonyms and synonyms
–> Identify homophones or rhyming words
–> Identify base words, prefixes, or suffixes
–> Come up with other words following given patterns
–> Write sentences that prove knowledge of word meaning
–> Identify patterns within the words
–> Sort all words from list into categories/oddball category
–> Identify figurative meaning of common idioms (if provided)
Use as homework, differentiation tool, early finisher activity, or morning work!
