Description
Use a high-interest manipulative like building bricks in combination with math skills to explore numbers every day!
Included in this resource:
- 20 unique building block pictures (February themed)
- 3 ‘Exploring Numbers’ number of the day pages – first second & third grade
- 3 optional challenge tasks
- Teacher directions
How to use this resource:
- Print a copy of the ‘Exploring Numbers’ page (A, B or C) for each student and place in a dry erase sleeve. Optional: Copy one of the challenge pages to make it double sided.
- Decide which picture your students will build and explore today.
- Set out building bricks for students.
- Print enough pictures so that students can look and build – one per small group is enough.
- Your students will build the picture. Then, they will count the number of bricks they used and that number will be their number of the day.
- Students will complete the tasks on their Exploring Numbers page.
- Students can go over answers together as a group, or with you whole-class.
This activity is great to use as morning work or math warm-up!
You will need to model this routine for your students for a few days until they understand the routine… after that, they can complete independently!
